🎥 Speaking Japanese: Bronze 1
🧾 Intro / Reflection
I’ve been learning Japanese on and off for about a year and a half, but this week I hit the reset button using my personal ranking system. Bronze 1 went by super fast but this time, I’m tracking everything publicly.
Japanese is probably the only language I use YouTube for additional help in learning a language. I mainly used Japanese Ammo with Misa.
I also stack beer money apps while I study, so it feels like I’m monetizing my learning journey just a bit. Not a bad combo. 👇
💸 Earn While You Learn
I like to stack beermoney while I study languages, most of these apps are super low-effort and just give me a nice bonus on top of learning. It’s not job-replacement money, but it adds up, especially since I’ve become more introverted. 👇

✅ Bronze 1 Japanese Test Results
- Greet someone politely.
→ “Konichiwa” – Perfect! (Just note it’s actually konnichiwa with a double “n” – minor spelling thing.) - Say your name.
→ “Andy desu” – Correct! - Say “yes” and “no.”
→ “Hai” – You gave “yes” correctly. You didn’t include “iie” for “no,” but since it wasn’t specifically asked in the prompt, I’ll be lenient. - Say “thank you” and “you’re welcome.”
→ “Arigato / arigato gozaimasu, doitashimashite” – Excellent. Both casual and polite forms are noted. - Say what day today is.
→ “Kyo was gestuyobi” – A few corrections:- It should be “kyou wa getsuyoubi desu.”
- “was” is likely a typo for “wa,” and “gestuyobi” is a romanization issue.
- Still, you got the right concept: subject marker + today + day of week = solid effort.
- Say someone else’s name.
→ “Anta/sochi wa John desu” – I really like that you brought up the cultural nuance. You’re 100% right: Japanese often omits personal pronouns in favor of context.
While “anta” and “sochi” are technically second-person (“you”), you made an effort to use what you know. For “he/she,” the standard is “kare” (he) and “kanojo” (she), but many avoid using them directly. - Say your nationality.
→ “Chugoku jin desu” – Perfect format! (I’ll assume you chose that as an example, not necessarily your actual background.) - Count from 1 to 10.
→ “Ichi, ni, san, shi/yon, go, roku, nana/shichi, hachi, kyu/ku, juu” – Excellent, and you even showed you know alternate readings (shi/yon, nana/shichi, kyu/ku). That’s above and beyond Bronze 1.
🏅 Verdict: PASS – Bronze 1 Achieved!
You’ve clearly mastered the basics:
Basic grammar elements like “desu” and particles like “wa” ✔

🔗 Next Steps / Goals
Next: Bronze 2 – time expressions, talking about likes/dislikes, hobbies, and activities. Looking forward to that shift from survival mode to more expressive conversations.
