Spanish Week 7 — Silver 1 Passed! My day, Past events, Time markers 💰 Earn & learn

🎥 Speaking Spanish:

🧾 Intro / Reflection

I passed Silver 1! This is about the point I had reached before when I was learning Spanish, before I restarted with my new system. This week was all about past tense, time markers, and sequence words. Past tense gave me some trouble at first, but this time around my learning method made it smoother.
The test itself was easier than I expected, even though I wasn’t 100% on all the conjugations. I’ll keep practicing past tense as I move into Silver 2 to get more confident with it. There’s still more memorization ahead with conjugations for each pronoun, but that will come with time.
As always, still make money online with Beermoney while I study, it’s nice to monetize the grind. 👇

💸 Earn While You Learn
I like to stack beermoney while I study languages, most of these apps are super low-effort and just give me a nice bonus on top of learning. It’s not job-replacement money, but it adds up, especially since I’ve become more introverted. 👇

Grammar requirements:
1️⃣ The Past Tense (Two Main Forms)

For basic storytelling, you need pretérito indefinido (preterite) first, because it’s used for completed actions in the past. Later you’ll mix in imperfecto (imperfect) for background details.

Regular Preterite Conjugations

Ending-AR Example: hablar (to speak)-ER Example: comer (to eat)-IR Example: vivir (to live)
yohablécomíviví
hablastecomisteviviste
él/ella/ustedhablócomióvivió
nosotros/ashablamoscomimosvivimos
vosotros/ashablasteiscomisteisvivisteis
ellos/ellas/ustedeshablaroncomieronvivieron

Common Irregular Preterites You’ll Use A Lot

These break the regular rules — you just have to memorize them.

InfinitiveMeaningyo formtú formél/ella formnosotrosellos
ir / serto go / to befuifuistefuefuimosfueron
tenerto havetuvetuvistetuvotuvimostuvieron
hacerto do/makehicehicistehizohicimoshicieron
estarto beestuveestuvisteestuvoestuvimosestuvieron
poderto be ablepudepudistepudopudimospudieron
decirto say/telldijedijistedijodijimosdijeron
verto seevivisteviovimosvieron

2️⃣ Time Markers (When Things Happened)

These help anchor your story in time.

SpanishEnglish
ayeryesterday
anteayerthe day before yesterday
anochelast night
la semana pasadalast week
el mes pasadolast month
hace dos díastwo days ago
el sábado pasadolast Saturday
en 2010in 2010
esta mañanathis morning

3️⃣ Sequencing Words (Telling Events in Order)

These let you chain events so your story flows.

SpanishEnglish
primerofirst
después / luegothen
más tardelater
entoncesso / then
al finalin the end
finalmentefinally
mientraswhile
antes debefore
después deafter

4️⃣ Sentence-Building Formula

[Time marker] + [subject] + [verb in past tense] + [details] + [sequencing word if continuing]
Example:
Ayer me levanté temprano. Después desayuné con mi familia. Luego fuimos al centro comercial y compramos ropa. Finalmente volvimos a casa.

Silver Spanish Test Results

Part 1: Daily Event Retelling

Describe what you did yesterday, including at least 3 events in sequence. Try to use past tense verbs and time markers.

Prompt:
“Cuéntame qué hiciste ayer desde que te despertaste hasta que te fuiste a dormir.”

ayer, yo me desperté a las ocho y media. yo me cepillé los dientes, luego comí huevos para desayuno. a la una, estudié los lenguas, luego practiué el piano. A las tres comí arroz con pollo para el almuerzo. Despues, yo me duché, luego jugar los videojuegos. finalmente yo me voy a dormí.

Feedback:

  • ✅ Good use of past tense and sequencing words (“luego”, “después”, “finalmente”).
  • Small corrections:
    • “para desayuno” → para el desayuno (need the article).
    • “estudié los lenguas” → estudié las lenguas (feminine plural).
    • “practiué” → practiqué (spelling).
    • “jugar los videojuegos” → jugué los videojuegos (past tense).
    • “yo me voy a dormí” → me fui a dormir (past tense, reflexive).

Part 2: Weekend Plans / Past Weekend

Talk about something you did last weekend. Include at least 2 activities and describe briefly how it went.

Prompt:
“¿Qué hiciste el fin de semana pasado? Describe un poco cómo estuvo.”

la semana pasada, fui a la tienda. Compré huevos, pollo, tomates, queso, y arroz. Luego yo me concontré a mi amigo.

Feedback:

  • ✅ Past tense verbs are used well.
  • Small corrections:
    • “la semana pasada” is correct.
    • “yo me concontré a mi amigo” → me encontré con mi amigo (“encontrarse con” is the correct expression).
    • No need for “yo” unless emphasizing.

Part 3: Sequencing Practice

Put these actions in a short story. Use sequencing words like luego, después, primero.

  • Comer desayuno
  • Ir al parque
  • Comprar frutas
  • Leer un libro

Prompt:
“Cuenta la historia de tu día usando estas acciones en orden. Usa palabras como ‘primero’, ‘después’, ‘luego’.”

Primero Jerry comió el desayuno, despues el cepilló los dientes, luego el fue a la tienda y compró los verduras y carne. Finalmente el leyó un libro.

Feedback:

  • Good sequencing words: “primero, después, luego, finalmente”.
  • Corrections:
    • “despues el cepilló los dientes” → después se cepilló los dientes (reflexive).
    • “los verduras y carne” → las verduras y la carne (agreement + article).

Part 4: Irregular Verb Check

Translate and use the following sentences in Spanish (past tense). Make sure you conjugate irregulars correctly:

  1. I went to the store yesterday.
  2. She made lunch in the morning.
  3. We saw a movie on Saturday.

yo fui a la tienda ayer. ella hiza el almuerzo en la manana nosotros vimos una pelicula en sabado

Feedback:

  • “yo fui a la tienda ayer” → ✅ correct.
  • “ella hiza el almuerzo en la manana” → ella hizo el almuerzo en la mañana (“hacer” is irregular: hizo).
  • “nosotros vimos una pelicula en sabado” → nosotros vimos una película el sábado (add accent, article).

Part 5: Reflection

Talk about a short situation from last week where something interesting or unusual happened. Include at least one past tense verb and one time marker.

Prompt:
“Cuenta algo interesante o diferente que pasó la semana pasada.”

la semana pasada, vi un algo ineresante. un perro fue astustado de un gato y el corrió.

Feedback:

  • Corrections:
    • “vi un algo ineresante” → vi algo interesante (“algo” is already “something”, no need “un”, and spelling).
    • “fue astustado de un gato” → se asustó por un gato (correct reflexive + preposition).
    • “y el corrió” → ✅ correct, just add accent: él corrió.

Overall Assessment

  • You understand past tense verbs (regular & common irregulars).
  • You use time markers (“ayer”, “la semana pasada”) correctly.
  • You can sequence events using “primero, luego, después, finalmente”.
  • Minor errors are mostly spelling, accents, and small reflexive mistakes.

Silver 1 Pass Confidence: Very high. With these small fixes, you could comfortably pass.
