🎥 Speaking Mandarin:
🧾 Intro / Reflection
Passed Silver 1! Honestly, these promo tests felt pretty easy and smooth. Most of my mistakes were small grammar slips, like having the wrong word order in some sentences.
The tests were mostly conversation, translation, and word recall, nothing too difficult. I reviewed my notes from Bronze 1–5 a couple of times, but since I felt confident in the vocab, I focused more on conversations. There’s a big difference between recalling memorized words and actually applying them in sentences, so the extra practice helped.
As always, I continue to make money online with Beermoney to monetize my learning a bit. Not much, but it adds up. 👇
💸 Earn While You Learn
I like to stack beermoney while I study languages, most of these apps are super low-effort and just give me a nice bonus on top of learning. It’s not job-replacement money, but it adds up, especially since I’ve become more introverted. 👇

⚠️ Corrections / Suggestions
- Small spelling or word fixes:
- “zhar” → “zhe’r” or just “zher” for “here”
- “Rememeber” → “Remember” (minor English typo in your notes 😄)
- “bu ru ye bu leng” → “bú rè yě bú lěng” (correct way to say “not hot and not cold”)
- “ji dan” → “jīdàn”, “mifan” → “mǐfàn”, “ji rou” → “jīròu”, “niu rou” → “niúròu”
- Natural phrasing adjustments:
- Instead of “ni men de niurou he jidan zai nali?” you could say:
“Nín hǎo, qǐngwèn, nǐmen de niúròu hé jīdàn zài nǎlǐ?” (more polite & smoother) - “wo zui xihuan de tianqi shi xiayu, bu ru ye bu leng de” →
“Wǒ zuì xǐhuān de tiānqì shì xiàyǔ, bú rè yě bú lěng.”
- Consistency with Chinese particles & tones in Pinyin:
- You don’t need tones for your system, but watch small typos that can change meaning (e.g., ye → yě, ru → rè).
- Optional expansions:
You could include “because”/“so” linking words for extra fluency:
Wǒ xǐhuān xià yǔ de tiānqì, yīnwèi wǒ juédé hěn fàngsōng.
Míngtiān tiānqì hěn hǎo, suǒyǐ wǒ xiǎng hé péngyǒu qù kàn diànyǐng.
🔹 Prompt 1: Morning Routine + Tomorrow Plan
Write or speak about:
- What time you woke up today, what you did this morning.
- What you ate.
- What you will do tomorrow.
- Try to use present, past, and future tense, linking words, and at least one adjective.
wo jintian zhaoshang liu dian qichuang, shuaya, ranhou chi zhaofan.
Wo zhaofan chi le miantaio he jidan.
wo mingtian yao he pengyou qu dongwuyuan, ranhou qu pengyou de ja da lanqiu.
💡 Notes:
- “zhaoshang” → zǎoshang
- “miantaio” → miàntiáo
- “ja da lanqiu” → dǎ lánqiú
- “pengyou de ja da lanqiu” → pengyou jia dǎ lánqiú (simpler, clearer)
- Good use of past tense (le), future tense (xiǎng…qù), and linking words (ránhòu)
🔹 Prompt 2: Introduce Yourself & a Friend + Food Preferences
Write or speak about:
- Introduce yourself and a friend (name, nationality).
- Say what you both like and dislike to eat.
- Include simple questions and answers in your text.
- Use present tense, adjectives, and possessive pronouns.
zhe shi wode pengyou, Matt, wo renshi ta henjiule. Ta shi meiguo ren.
Matt, ni xihuan chi shenme?
Matt: Wo xihuan chi tiande, ni ne? |
Wo bu xihuan chi tiande, danshi wo xihuan la de, ni xihuan chi la de ma?
Matt: Wo buxihuan.
💡 Notes:
- “henjiule” → hěn jiǔ le (spacing, tone marks optional for your system)
- “buxihuan” → bù xǐhuān
- You used questions, adjectives (tián, là), and conjunctions (dànshì) — perfect for Bronze → Silver.
🔹 Prompt 3: Directions from Train Station to Favorite Cafe
Write or speak about:
- How to get from the train station to your favorite cafe.
- Include prepositions, linking words, and polite phrases like “请问…”
- Mention at least 2 landmarks or turns.
- Use short sentences strung together.
Qingwen, ni neng bang wo ma?
Wo bu zhidao na ge huoche wo yao zuo qu jige cafe dian.
Ni zhidao zhege cafe dain pangbian you shenme? xie xie nin.
💡 Notes:
- “huoche wo yao zuo qu” → huǒchē zhàn zěnme zuò qù (makes it clear it’s the station you’re starting from)
- “dain pangbian” → diàn pángbiān
- Very good survival phrases: “qǐngwèn”, “zhīdào…ma”, “xièxie nín”
Task 1: Translation
Translate this sentence into Chinese (pinyin, no tones needed):
“Yesterday I went to the park and played basketball with my friend.”
zuotian wo qule gongyuan haiyou he pengyou da le lanqiu
💡 Notes:
- Add a comma before “hái hé péngyǒu” for clarity.
- “haiyou he pengyou” → “hái hé péngyǒu” (means “and also with my friend”)
Task 2: Grammar Multiple Choice
Choose the correct way to complete the sentence:
Wo ____ chi le zhaofan.
A) zai
B) le
C) shi
Wo zai chi le zhaofan
❌ Incorrect. Correct answer: le
Wǒ chī le zǎofàn.
💡 Notes:
- “zài” is used for present continuous (e.g., “wǒ zài chī zǎofàn” = I am eating breakfast), but here the past tense is required, so le is correct.
Task 3: Spot the Mistake
Find and correct the mistake in this sentence:
Wo xiang qu chi la de miantiao, danshi wo bu xihuan chi miantiao.
Wo qu chi le miantiao, danshi wo bu xihuan chi miantiao
💡 Notes:
- “danshi” → dànshì
- Spacing in Pinyin helps readability
Task 4: Comprehension
Read this sentence and answer in English:
Jīntiān tiānqì bú rè yě bú lěng, suǒyǐ wǒ xiǎng qù gōngyuán sànbù.
Question: Why does the speaker want to go to the park today?
Ta xiang qu gongyuan yinwei bu re ye bu leng.
💡 Notes:
- sànbù” = “to take a walk.” Better to say: “He wants to go to the park for a walk because it’s not hot and not cold.”
Task 5: Vocabulary Sentence
Create one sentence in Chinese (pinyin) that uses:
- a weather phrase
- a color
jingtian de tianqi xiaxue, hen leng.
wo xihuan heisi de yi fu.
💡 Notes:
“jingtian” → “jintian.” Also heisi is uncommon; just say hei se (black).
