๐ŸŽฅ Video Update:

๐Ÿงพ Intro / Reflection

This is my third week in Bronze 4 German. I decided not to take the test and instead focus on grammar, specifically the cases: nominative, accusative, and dative.
Iโ€™ve always struggled with this and figured I should finally sit down and really learn it. The constant changes to articles based on gender and case are frustrating, and Iโ€™ve never enjoyed memorizing them.
Itโ€™ll take me a while to feel confident enough to retake Bronze 4, but at least Iโ€™m putting in the work now. As usual, Beermoney earnings to make money online to help soften the blow. ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ’ธ Earn While You Learn
I like to stack beermoney while I study languages, most of these apps are super low-effort and just give me a nice bonus on top of learning. Itโ€™s not job-replacement money, but it adds up, especially since Iโ€™ve become more introverted. ๐Ÿ‘‡

3 Quick Dative Rules

  1. Masculine & Neuter โ†’ dem, Feminine โ†’ der, Plural โ†’ den (+n on noun).
  2. Adjectives in Dative โ†’ -en nearly every time.
  3. If a noun in plural doesnโ€™t already end in โ€œn,โ€ add one in Dative (e.g., Kinder โ†’ Kindern).

Accusative (direct object + certain prepositions)

1. Direct object of the verb

The person/thing directly affected by the action.

  • Ich habe einen Hund. (I have a dog.)
  • Sie liest ein Buch. (She reads a book.)

2. After certain โ€œalways accusativeโ€ prepositions

These always take accusative, no matter what:

  • durch (through)
  • fรผr (for)
  • gegen (against)
  • ohne (without)
  • um (around)

Dative (indirect object + certain prepositions)

1. Indirect object of the verb

The recipient or person benefiting/harmed by the action.

  • Ich gebe dem Mann das Buch. (I give the man the book.)
  • Sie bringt ihrer Mutter einen Kaffee. (She brings her mother a coffee.)

2. After certain โ€œalways dativeโ€ prepositions

These always take dative:

  • aus (out of, from)
  • auรŸer (except for)
  • bei (at, near, with)
  • mit (with)
  • nach (after, to)
  • seit (since, for [time])
  • von (from, of)
  • zu (to)
