๐ŸŽฅ Speaking Japanese:

๐Ÿงพ Intro / Reflection

Japanese is still kind of a struggle for me. The learning system I use works really well for brute-force languages, but Japanese is so pattern-heavy that it needs a different approach. I rely a lot on grammar breakdown videos to supplement the brute-force memorization from my ranking method.

That being said, Bronze 2 wasnโ€™t too bad. I had to study a few specific structures before testing. I still confuse “iru” and “aru” (existence for living vs. non-living things), and I tend to mix up sentence constructions with multiple topics, or where you have to remember na/no and other grammar-specific connectors.

All in all, I passed Bronze 2. Still earning beermoney while I study, makes the slower weeks a little easier to deal with. ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ’ธ Earn While You Learn
I like to stack beermoney while I study languages, most of these apps are super low-effort and just give me a nice bonus on top of learning. Itโ€™s not job-replacement money, but it adds up, especially since Iโ€™ve become more introverted. ๐Ÿ‘‡

โœ… Bronze 2 Japanese Test Results

๐Ÿ”Ž Your Answers (with feedback):

  1. “nan sai desu ka?”
โœ… Perfect question form! You understood the concept. (But you were supposed to say your own age, not ask it โ€” small misread.)
Example: โ€œwatashi wa juu hassai desu.โ€ (I am 18 years old.)

  1. “ongaku ga suki, demo supotsu ga suki ja nai desu”
โœ… Correct structure, natural phrasing! Excellent use of โ€œsukiโ€ and โ€œsuki janai desu.โ€

  1. “ima wa san ji san juu pun”
    โœ… Totally correct. Nice!

  1. “ichiban no suki na no iro wa nan desu ka?”
โ— Slight confusion in word order.
    • Correct form: โ€œichiban suki na iro wa nan desu ka?โ€
(โ€œMost liked color is what?โ€ / Whatโ€™s your favorite color?)
    • You used โ€œnoโ€ unnecessarily between โ€œsuki naโ€ and โ€œiro.โ€
Still understandable though โ€” not a big deal!

  1. “neko ga aru, namae wa Momo desu”
โš ๏ธ Close! Here’s why it’s slightly off:
    • “Aru” is used for inanimate objects.
    • For living things like cats, use: โ€œiruโ€
So the correct version is: โ€œneko ga imasu. namae wa Momo desu.โ€

  1. “shumi wa piano suru”
โš ๏ธ A little unnatural. Two better options:
    • โ€œshumi wa piano desu.โ€ (My hobby is piano.)
    • โ€œpiano wo hiku no ga suki desu.โ€ (I like playing piano.)
    You’re combining โ€œshumiโ€ with โ€œsuru,โ€ which isnโ€™t typically how itโ€™s phrased.

  1. “shumi wa nani desu ka?”
    โœ… Perfect! Great question.

  1. “kyo, nihongo wo benkyou shikute, terebi wo mita”
โš ๏ธ This is pretty good, but:
    • โ€œShikuteโ€ is a form of โ€œtaiโ€ (want to do), so this becomes a little awkward.
    • Better version:
โ€œkyou wa nihongo wo benkyou shite, terebi wo mimashita.โ€
      (โ€œToday I studied Japanese and watched TV.โ€)
Youโ€™re very close though, and clearly understand the sentence flow!

  1. “kono wa watashi no / kore wa watashi no hon”
โœ… The second one is perfect: โ€œkore wa watashi no honโ€
โš ๏ธ โ€œKono waโ€ is incorrect โ€” โ€œkonoโ€ must be followed directly by a noun.
    So:
    • โŒ โ€œKono wa…โ€ โ†’ wrong
    • โœ… โ€œKono hon wa…โ€ โ†’ correct
    • โœ… โ€œKore wa hon…โ€ โ†’ also correct

  1. “gakusei desu ka?”
โœ… Clean, short, and natural! Nice.

๐Ÿ Final Verdict: โœ… PASSED โ€“ Bronze 2 Achieved!

You clearly understand:

  • Likes/dislikes โœ…
  • Basic sentence structures โœ…
  • Asking/answering personal questions โœ…
  • Present tense verbs โœ…
  • Possession and daily activities โœ…

A couple of grammar slips (like aru vs iru, and shikute usage), but your intent was clear and you’re on track. Youโ€™re starting to think in Japanese, which is a huge milestone at this level.
